Starboard Choice Marine was first established in 2004 in downtown Mishawaka, IN. Founders Steve and Andy Peterson noticed the lack of service in the marine industry in the Michiana area, and they wanted to fill that void with a friendly local business.

Starboard Choice Marine started as a “service only” facility, and service continues to be our number one priority! We strive to recreate the service mentality at old-school gas stations, where the person working the pump not only filled your gas tank, but also checked your engine and cleaned your windows. This philosophy earned us a loyal customer base!

As the business grew and grew, our customers started to ask if we could carry new boats and motors. In 2012, we decided to look for the best pontoon boat builder in the industry, and we decided on Tahoe® Luxury pontoon boats. We also wanted to sell a tough, reasonably priced fishing boat, so we took on the MirroCraft fishing boat line.

Our venture into sales was a great success. In 2013, 2014, and 2015, Starboard Choice Marine was the number one volume dealer in Indiana for Tahoe pontoon boats!

After 11 years in operation, the business outgrew its original location in downtown Mishawaka, and we started to look for a new home. In October 2015, we purchased the Pleasant Lake Resort in Edwardsburg, MI. We started the renovation of a new, modern showroom and built a state-of-the-art service facility at our new location. Our new on-site launch allows us to water-test every boat we service!

During the summer of 2016, Starboard Choice Marine received its first national “Gold” dealership status for Tahoe pontoons. It was at that time that we decided to start selling boat hoists with the same quality as the Tahoe pontoon lineup. Great Lakes Lifts were then added to the growing list of products we sell!

In 2017, we added on to our facility again, expanding our capacity with another new storage building on site. Sales continued to grow, and during the 2017 season, we took on PolarKraft aluminum fishing boats to our lineup of boat sales.

In 2018, Tahoe presented us with the “Million Dollar Dealer” award, which we continued to receive each year through 2023! During the summer of 2019, we decided to expand our facility with a new boat rigging facility. Its completion has allowed us to be more efficient in the preparation and delivery of new products to our loyal customers!

In late 2019, we expanded our product offerings to include AlumaCraft fishing boats. However, we also decided it was time to focus more on the service end of our business! This is the first year we started to offer boat hoist installation and removal, with the help of our new work barge.

Starting in 2020, Starboard Choice Marine started selling Bayview boats, a commercial line of work boats out of Canada. Since our partnership with Bayview, we have sold numerous work boats to important government and commercial agencies, even as far away as Florida!

We look forward to the future, and continuing to meet the growing expectations of the boating industry – all while maintaining the “old school morals” that made our business a success.
